StatWin Professional

Developed by SXR Software LLC and meant to be used on a single computer, the StatWin Professional application tells you what is done on your computer when you’re not there. The application tells you what programs are launched, what files are accessed, what websites are visited, what the user types and clicks, what USB devices are connected to the computer, and more. It can even take screenshots to show you precisely what the user is doing.

The StatWin Professional installation file is 7.7MB in size. Run the file, select one of the many supported languages, click through the other steps presented by the setup wizard, and you will have StatWin Professional up and running in no time at all. The application is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

When the installation process is done, you will notice a StatWin Professional icon in the system tray and a StatWin Professional floating clock on the desktop. By default, the clock displays the time; double click it and it will display system uptime (the amount of time that has passed since you logged in).

The StatWin Professional interface is appealing through its simplicity. At the top you have the typical menu bar that provides easy access to all the functionality of the application. To the left, in the Monitoring Categories pane, it presents a list of all the information it collects. The data is grouped in categories: Processes, Activity, Keyboard, Mouse, USB Devices, Files, Screenshots, and more.

StatWin Professional collects computer usage data for all the categories listed in the Monitoring Categories pane. This means it can tell you at what hour the computer was last booted up, what processes ran while it was running, what sites were visited, what files were accessed, what applications were installed or uninstalled, what USB devices were used, what was clicked on, and what keys were pressed (it even records what was said in instant messaging applications such as Yahoo! Messenger, for example).

The application can also take screenshots. Please note though that this functionality is not enabled by default. You must turn it on from the Computer Monitoring menu under Tools. In the Tools menu you will also find Calendar, Statistics, Ratings, and Report; these are also displayed in the upper right hand part of StatWin Professional’s interface. The Statistics and Report tools are meant to help you analyze all the computer usage data collected by StatWin Professional.

StatWin Professional is shareware, meaning you can assess its functionality for free for 30 days.
